Sobre Briones

Heritage

Briones preserves a remarkable historical ensemble in La Rioja. The Hermitage of San Juan or of the Holy Christ of Remedies (18th century), with an octagonal plan and rich Baroque decoration, and the Palace of the Marquis of San Nicolás, a magnificent example of Baroque civil architecture, stand out.

Also noteworthy are the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, with one of the most monumental altarpieces in La Rioja, the Renaissance palaces, the medieval gates and walls, and the stunning views from the Enclosures of the Forty over the meanders of the Ebro.

Celebrations

The main festivals are celebrated in honor of the Christ of Remedies, with processions in May and September accompanied by the traditional dance group.

Also noteworthy are San Isidro (May 15), the Pilgrimage to the Conception, and the famous Medieval Days in June, which transform the town into a historical setting. In summer, the Nights of San Lorenzo and the Day of Peña Zamaca fill the village with a festive atmosphere.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of Briones is marked by the Rioja tradition and local products. The patatas a la riojana, chuletillas al sarmiento, artisan sausages, and dishes made with vegetables from the Ebro garden stand out. All of this is accompanied by the renowned Rioja wines, undisputed protagonists of the Briones table.
