Sobre El Hito

Heritage

The Hito has a valuable natural, cultural, and recreational heritage. It features the Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption, a 15th-century church with an imposing tower and a unique façade. The municipality offers well-equipped sports and leisure areas. In its natural surroundings, the Old Fountain stands out, an ancient water supply point and part of the route of the Lapis Specularis, and the Nature Classroom, dedicated to the Lagoon of El Hito and the common crane.

Celebrations

The festive traditions of El Hito revolve around the Virgin of the Incarnation and the Christ of Protection. The patronal festivals in May stand out, featuring the traditional enramá, and those in August in honor of the Christ of Protection. On March 25, the day of the Incarnation, a procession is celebrated accompanied by devils and dancers, protagonists of the emblematic Endiablada, a unique tradition full of music, color, and devotion. Completing the calendar is the pilgrimage to Villas Viejas, which commemorates the place where the patroness was found and gathers neighbors and visitors each year.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of El Hito is traditional and Castilian-Manchegan, based on simple products and timeless recipes. Dishes such as migas, ajoarriero, game stews, pisto manchego, and gachas stand out. In pastry, typical items include rolletes, flores, rosquillas, and other homemade sweets specially made for festivals and celebrations. All of this is accompanied by local products and flavors linked to rural life and the traditions of the village.
