Its location at the foot of a hill keeps it sheltered from the cold and the wind; it also seems to nestle under the mountain’s protection when the sun is strong, as if seeking the embrace of this matriarchal peak.

Sobre Formiche Alto

<p><strong>Heritage</strong></p>

The surroundings of Formiche lead us through bends of rivers that connect it with its lower district, Formiche Bajo. Both villages preserve 17th-century architecture, such as the town hall and the hermitage.

Formiche Alto draws attention with its medieval bridge, reminiscent of times of conquest, horseback tournaments, and the calm passage of carts. Today, that bridge leads us to a fountain where the shade of a lime tree offers company and comfort.

Nearby stands a monument to the charcoal maker, showing the image of the town’s ancient inhabitants.

Within its boundaries, there is also a monumental tree — the Sabina Pinera juniper — as well as three Iberian settlements and one from the Bronze Age.

<p><strong>Festivities</strong></p>

Festivities of Saint Peter – Last weekend of April, featuring religious acts, young bull events, fire bulls (“toros embolados”), and open-air dances.

Festivities of Saint Roch – Around August 15, five days of music, fire bulls, contests, and popular activities.

Festivities of Saint Michael – Last Saturday of September, with bull events, mass, and dance.

Mycological Days – In autumn, with mountain outings, mushroom contests, and a community meal.

<p><strong>Gastronomy</strong></p>

In Formiche Alto, you will discover a mountain cuisine based on local garden and forest products — from traditional cucumber dishes to wild mushroom recipes and hearty stews made with local ingredients. Perfect for regaining strength after a hike through the mountains.
