Sobre Gelsa

Heritage

Gelsa is a locality with a strong Mudéjar heritage, visible in its Moorish neighborhood and in the Street of the Covered, one of the best examples of popular architecture in the region. The Church of San Pedro Apostle (17th century) stands out, housing the relic of the Holy Thorn, as well as the hermitage of Our Lady of Good Success, closely linked to local tradition.

Its history is closely tied to the Ebro River, with elements such as the ancient weir, waterwheels, and traditional irrigation systems, reflecting its agricultural past. The environment combines river landscapes with the unique landscape of the Monegros, of great environmental and cultural value.

Celebrations

The patron saint festivals are in honor of the Virgin of Good Success, on September 8, and Saint Peter Martyr of Verona on April 29.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of Gelsa is linked to Aragonese tradition and its agricultural environment, featuring products from the Ebro Valley. Simple and tasty dishes such as migas, traditional stews, and meats stand out, along with quality local products that reflect the rural identity of the municipality.
