Sobre San Vicente de la Sonsierra

Heritage

San Vicente de la Sonsierra stands out for its impressive medieval fortified complex, with walls, a castle, and the Church of Santa María la Mayor, which dominates the historic center. Within the walled enclosure, gates, defensive remains, and a valuable medieval necropolis are preserved.

In its surroundings, the Hermitage of Santa María de la Piscina stands out, a gem of Romanesque architecture from the 12th century located among vineyards and with the Sierra de Cantabria as a backdrop, one of the most emblematic images of the municipality.

The heritage is completed with hermitages, rock-cut wine presses, and a wine landscape closely linked to the tradition of Rioja.

Celebrations

The most unique tradition is that of Los Disciplinantes, celebrated during Holy Week and the Cross of May, declared of National Tourist Interest.

Also noteworthy are the celebrations of the Holy Cross (May and September), with processions and religious acts, as well as the patronal festivals that combine tradition, popular culture, and a festive atmosphere.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of San Vicente de la Sonsierra is deeply linked to wine and the Rioja tradition. The chops with vine shoots, Riojan potatoes, artisanal sausages, and garden products stand out. All of this is accompanied by the prestigious Rioja wines, produced in its numerous wineries and an essential part of the municipality's identity.
