Sobre Socovos

<p><strong>Heritage</strong></p>

Both within its street layout and in its surroundings, Socovos possesses suggestive points of interest for the visitor. It does not matter if you are looking for art, history, landscapes, or sports, as all of this can be found in this wonderful place. Regarding the monumental and historical legacy, its castle stands out, currently in ruins, but from which the walls are still preserved. Its origin is Arabic and from the 12th century, although it subsequently underwent modifications during the reign of Philip II, carried out by the master Nicolás de Ledesma.

Next to the remains of the Almohad fortress stands the Old Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. The construction of this temple was completed in the 16th century, after King Philip II granted permission. The tower is of later construction, dated in 1657. Inside the temple, we find a Plateresque pulpit from the 16th century.

The surroundings of Socovos are filled with beautiful and interesting places to enjoy a good walk, such as the Calar area, the Cañada de Buendía, the Hermitage of Saints Philip and James, or the points of archaeological interest. Among the latter, the following stand out: Solana del Molinico, Peña Bermeja, Peña de Santa Bárbara, and Cerro del Pardo or Cerrabú. Additionally, Socovos has within its territory part of the Cenajo Reservoir, a place especially suitable for practicing water sports such as windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, or fishing.
