Sobre Valverde del Júcar

Heritage

Valverde del Júcar has an interesting religious and civil heritage. The Church of Santa María Magdalena, of Gothic origin with important Baroque elements, stands out alongside the Hermitage of the Mother of God, the oldest building in the town. Completing the ensemble is the historic cemetery, with an artistically valuable chapel-mausoleum, a 17th-century palace house, and the urban environment of the Main Square and the Vegetable Square, historical axes of the municipality.

Celebrations

The main festivities of Valverde del Júcar are the Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos in honor of the Holy Child, declared Regional Tourist Interest Festival and celebrated from January 5 to 10. They stand out for the representation of the dialectical battles, known as the Dichos, and for the intense use of gunpowder from the trabucos, reaching their climax on January 8.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of Valverde del Júcar is framed within the Conquense Manchego tradition, based on local products and recipes of rural origin. Dishes such as morteruelo, gachas, game stews, migas, and preparations with lamb stand out, accompanied by wines and traditional sweets linked to local festivities.
