Heritage
Viana was founded by King Sancho VII the Strong in the year 1219, and its urban layout has the distinctive character of a fortified square.
The streets are narrow, and the blocks of houses are elongated and not wide. The growth of the city has been outside the walls of the ancient enclosure. There are numerous points of interest that Viana offers, one of the towns with the most personality and the greatest heritage wealth of Tierra Estella.
There are some that deserve a visit to the city. The monumental Church of Santa María, with its Baroque façade and its Main Altarpiece, the tempera paintings of the chapel of San Juan del Ramo, the walls and gates, the urban area with its numerous and splendid palaces and heraldic houses from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, the Church of San Pedro, the convent of San Juan del Ramo, the hermitages in its territory, authentic relics of the numerous villages that existed on the Camino de Santiago, the Laguna de Las Cañas, and the Hypogeum of Longar.
