Heritage
The heritage of Zúñiga is particularly rich and reflects its origin as a walled medieval nucleus and its historical relevance within the ancient Kingdom of Navarra. It preserves part of its defensive enclosure, with sections of walls and towers integrated into the village, which maintain the medieval urban layout practically intact. In the religious sphere, the Parish Church of Santa María stands out, a 16th-century temple in Gothic-Renaissance style, with a Mannerist tower and a notable late Plateresque altarpiece, one of the most valuable artistic pieces in the locality. Completing the ecclesiastical heritage are the Hermitage of Our Lady of Arquijas, of proto-Gothic origin from the 13th century with interesting mural paintings, the humilladero of Arquijas from the 16th century, and the Hermitage of Santa María de Beatasis. This historical legacy is complemented by the natural environment of the Ega River and the holm oak forest, the murals created in auzolan by the neighbors, and the Mythological Path of the Barranco de Valseca, which integrate tradition, landscape, and popular culture into the heritage identity of the municipality.
