Moderate About this route
Moderate route that aims to bring us closer to two of the towns that still have two small castles that once were part of the defensive system that protected the Kingdom of Aragon: the castles of Santed and Berrueco. The route starts from Gallocanta heading north, always at the foot of Peña Alta, taking forest tracks that will bring us closer to Santed. Here, although the route surrounds the remains of its castle, we will be able to park our bicycles and hike to the castle via the marked trails. After that, we will return towards Gallocanta along comfortable and wide forest tracks. After crossing the urban area again from where we previously set off, we will take a series of paths that will lead us slightly uphill to the small town of Berrueco. There, right at the entrance of the municipality, are the remains of its castle: a small watchtower (which we will have to hike to) that will undoubtedly offer us one of the best views of the entire lagoon.
Aspects to consider: some of the paths pass through flood-prone areas, so special attention should be paid to the condition of these areas after episodes of heavy rain.
Types of paths:
- Trail: 18.6 km
- Road: 2.66 km
- Street: 2.13 km
- National road: 791 m
- Other routes: < 100 m
