Easy About this route
This round trip connects Villafranca de Córdoba with the town of Alcolea, covering an interesting stretch of the Guadalquivir River valley and discovering some historical and landscape elements of the surroundings.
The route begins in Villafranca and heads towards the river, crossing local roads and paths that run through agricultural areas and riverside vegetation. One of the first highlights is the historic Puente Mocho, a stone construction that for centuries allowed crossing the Guadalquivir and today integrates perfectly into the river landscape.
Throughout the itinerary, remnants of the past appear, such as ancient bunkers or fortifications that recall episodes from the recent history of the territory. The path continues alongside the river's course, offering beautiful views of the natural surroundings.
One of the most striking places on the route is the dam of the Guadalquivir, where the water falls, forming a spectacular sheet over the retaining wall. Very close by is also the bridge that crosses the reservoir, from which wide panoramas of the river and the surrounding landscapes can be obtained.
During the journey, it is possible to stop at various points of interest such as traditional fountains or remnants of ancient defensive constructions that are part of the local heritage.
The route continues until reaching the vicinity of Alcolea, and after enjoying the surroundings, it returns by the same itinerary to Villafranca de Córdoba, completing a pleasant journey that combines river landscape, historical heritage, and quiet paths.
