Easy About this route
Route that runs along a well-maintained track, about 11 kilometers long, suitable for all audiences, with round trip on the same path and ideal for mountain biking. We find several pools along the way, where it is possible to take a bath.
We depart from the door of the Hermitage of the Holy Scale (18th century), located next to the parish church of San Miguel Arcángel. The hermitage is a baroque building, constructed of masonry and small stone, consisting of two floors. Don't leave Cabra without visiting the interior of this hermitage.
We head towards the hermitage of Our Lady of the Forsaken, southwest direction. Just 300 meters from the start, we turn left to take the PRTE-27 trail towards Formiche Bajo. There are signposts indicating the PR and the Molino de las Alcafas.
The route brings us closer to the landscapes created by the Valbona River in its fertile valley and its hydrological heritage. We will pass by the surroundings of the Mill of Los Navarros and the Gorge of La Muela. We take the left fork to continue walking parallel to the course of the Valbona River.
After a few meters from the fork, we pass by the farmhouse of El Palomar, restored and converted into a Hotel, the gorge opens up and forms some beautiful crystal-clear pools. After 4.5 km of walking, we arrive at the old spinning factory, known as The House of the Swallows.
From this building now in ruins, we continue for another 300 meters, where we turn left to reach a pen next to the Mill of Las Alcafas. To access the mill, you have to go down a path that leads to the right of the pen. If we take the detour to the left, we will reach the weir of the Alcafas.
After enjoying the wonderful surroundings of the mill and the waters offered by the Valbona River, we begin the return journey along the same route back to Cabra de Mora.
Important note: animals often graze in the area and we may encounter a closed gate. Don't forget to close it if you open it to pass.
