Sobre Estremera

Heritage

Estremera preserves a valuable heritage resulting from its long history, with evidence of settlement since the Middle Bronze in the Cueva de Pedro Fernández or La Sima. After the Christian conquest of Toledo in 1085, the town was protected by a medieval wall, now evoked in its coat of arms. Its main monument is the Church of Our Lady of Remedies, a Renaissance temple from the 16th century declared a Cultural Heritage Asset, which houses important altarpieces, a Romanesque Christ, and a historic organ of great value. The heritage ensemble is completed with stately homes, a funerary crypt from the 16th century, and a natural environment linked to the Tagus River and the old railway line of the Greenway of Tajuña, which reinforce the historical and scenic character of the locality.

Celebrations

The most notable festivals of Estremera are the Patron Saint Festivals in honor of the Virgin of Remedies, which take place in September and combine religious acts, processions, bull runs, street parties, and popular activities. The Holy Week is also particularly significant, with celebrations of a traditional nature and community participation, as well as various pilgrimages and popular festivities linked to the agricultural and religious calendar throughout the year, reflecting the strong cultural roots of the locality.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of Estremera is linked to the Castilian and Manchego tradition, with hearty dishes made from local products. The stews and potages, the cocido, the lamb and kid meats, as well as sausages and seasonal dishes related to the rural world stand out. In pastry, traditional homemade sweets are common, especially during local festivals and celebrations.
