Sobre Valdilecha

Heritage

In Valdilecha, its traditional rural architecture stands out, with steep streets and houses made of masonry and rammed earth, whitewashed to adapt to the climate. The Church of San Martín Obispo (12th-17th centuries) is prominent, whose Mudéjar apse, one of the few preserved in the Community of Madrid, earned it the declaration of Cultural Heritage Asset in 2017.

Also part of its heritage is the Route of the Chozos, with 17 constructions linked to transhumance, as well as the hermitage of the Virgen de la Oliva (18th century), located in a site with wide views over the valley.

Celebrations

The municipality has a prominent festive tradition throughout the year. Among its most representative celebrations are Los Mayos (April 30), the bullfighting festivities in September, and the Living Nativity at Christmas, a deeply rooted tradition that has been celebrated for over 20 years.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of Valdilecha is based on Castilian tradition, with simple and hearty dishes linked to the rural environment. Roasted meats stand out, especially lamb, as well as traditional stews made with garden products and legumes.
