Sobre Carabaña

Heritage

Carabaña has a rich historical and natural heritage with pre-Roman, Roman and Visigothic origins, highlighted by the remains of the Roman road, the Visigothic necropolis and vestiges of ancient temples. Its architectural heritage includes the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (16th century), the Palace of the Viceroy of the Indies, the hermitages of Santa Lucía and Santa Bárbara, and the 18th-century stone bridge over the Tajuña River. Added to this is the unique complex linked to the waters of Carabaña, including the bottling plant, the Chavarri halt and former thermal facilities. All of this is set within a valuable natural environment of the Tajuña Valley, with riverside and steppe ecosystems and routes such as the Tajuña Greenway.

Celebrations

Among the festivities of Carabaña, the Representation of the Passion of Christ on Good Friday stands out as one of the main cultural and tourist attractions of Holy Week in the Community of Madrid. The calendar is completed by the bullfights and bull runs in September, the traditional May Festival (30 April), and the patron saint festivities in honour of the Holy Christ of Peace and Health (14 September) and Saint Lucy (13 December).

Gastronomy

The gastronomy of Carabaña follows Castilian tradition, with simple dishes prepared using products from the Tajuña River plain. Homemade stews, spoon dishes, meats and seasonal products are common, accompanied by traditional pastries linked to popular celebrations.
