Heritage

Cultural heritage

Notable are the Church of San Martín de Tours (17th century), the Castle of La Coracera (15th century), and several historic hermitages such as those of the Rosary, Ecce-Homo, Christ of Humility, Health, Blood, and Virgin of the New. Other buildings of interest include the old prison, the train station, and the 19th-century café-theater, as well as traditional rural architecture.

Natural heritage

The municipality has natural spaces such as Las Cabreras, Cerro de Valdenoches, and areas of the San Juan reservoir, along with rivers and streams like the Alberche, Cofio, and Tórtolas. The predominant vegetation includes pine forests of stone pine, black pine, and holm oak, oak groves, strawberry trees, and shrubs such as rockrose, lavender, and thyme, with crops of vineyards, olive groves, almond trees, and fig trees. It also includes traditional livestock routes such as the Cañada de Talavera and the Cordel de San Juan.

Celebrations

The Three Kings Parade (January 5), the Carnivals, the religious events of Holy Week, and the Pilgrimage of El Hornazo (Easter Monday) stand out. The feast of the Most Holy Christ (May 3), cultural and sports activities in summer, the patron saint festivities of the Virgin of la Nueva (September 7-12), and Saint Martin of Tours Day (November 11) are also celebrated.

Gastronomy

Traditional Castilian dishes stand out, especially stews, meats, and game, accompanied by local wines from the region. The pastry includes typical homemade sweets, such as cakes and mantecados, while in bars and restaurants, you can enjoy tapas and portions that reflect the local culinary tradition.
