Sobre Saelices

Heritage

The main heritage element of Saelices is the Castle of El Castillejo, also known as Castillejo de Luján or Castle of Saelices, a medieval fortress located in a strategic enclave that dominates the valley of the Cigüela River. Its proximity to the Archaeological Park of Segóbriga reinforces the historical value of the municipality, integrating medieval defensive heritage and Roman heritage in the same territory.

Celebrations

Saelices has a festive calendar closely linked to religious and popular tradition. The festivities of San Blas (February), Holy Week, San Isidro (May), and the Mayos stand out. The most popular celebration is the Virgin of Remedies, with a pilgrimage to the hill of Segóbriga at the end of May. In September, the festivities of Christ of the Shelter, patron of the municipality, take place, along with other traditional celebrations throughout the year.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of Saelices is based on the Conquense Manchego tradition, with simple and hearty dishes linked to the rural world. Gachas, migas, stews, lamb stews, and seasonal cooking are common. In pastry, homemade sweets stand out, especially those associated with local festivities and celebrations.
