Heritage

The Castle of San Pedro Manrique (15th century), the Church of San Martín de Tours with Romanesque remains and Gothic calvary, the Templar ruins of San Pedro el Viejo, and the Hermitage of the Virgin of la Peña, the setting for the traditional Step of Fire, stand out.

Celebrations

On June 23rd, on the night of San Juan, the famous Fire Crossing is celebrated, where the neighbors cross barefoot over the embers next to the Hermitage of the Virgin of la Peña. On June 24th, the tradition of Las Móndidas takes place, featuring three young women who perform ancient rites and dances.

Other notable festivities include the Cruz de Mayo, the Trasladación at the end of summer, Carnivals, and Holy Week, with the traditional “oath of the sword”.

Gastronomy

San Pedro Manrique is known for its traditional cured meats, game, and mushrooms. Among its typical dishes are caldereta, migas, lamb tail scramble, sweet blood sausages, liver soups, and pickled dishes. Also typical are slaughter marinades, white migas, chichorras, and Artaguitón. The festivities are accompanied by local drinks such as remojón, tinada, and zurracapote.
